Two-player games have been fluctuating in and out of stock since the start of January’s lockdown, but we spied one of our favourites in stock and on sale. Hive pocket is now discounted by a third (£14, down from £20). This edition also includes the ladybug and mosquito expansion tiles, making it especially good value.
Strategist UK editor Ailbhe Malone writes: “When my husband and I travelled across Italy by train five years ago, I searched Reddit for the best two-player games to keep us entertained. Hive was the first game I bought, and I’ve since recommended Hive to many other couples who are travelling together — my friend Tabatha took it on a trip to Japan with her boyfriend and got so obsessed that they ordered an expansion pack as soon as they came back. Once you learn how the pieces move, it’s easy to pick up, like a smaller-scale game of chess. The games are fast, about 15 minutes, and the more you play, the better you get at it.”
