The Best Weighted Blankets on Amazon, According to Hyperenthusiastic Reviewers

Photo: Courtesy the retailer

Here at the Strategist UK, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy, but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we have People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed products and single out the most convincing ones. (You can learn more about our rating system and how we pick each item here.)

And while we’ve written about bedding on our U.S. website — including the best weighted blankets for a better night’s sleep, the best weighted blankets to gift, and the best weighted blankets for kids — here, we’ve rounded up the best weighted blankets as praised by the most enthusiastic reviewers on Amazon.co.uk.

Note: It’s recommended to choose a weighted blanket that’s around 7 to 12 percent of your body weight. For example, someone who weighs 60kg could use any blanket between 4.2kg and 7.2kg. Unless otherwise noted, we’ve listed the price for the 6.8kg (15 lb.) version of each blanket below.

Best-rated overall weighted blanket

Luna Weighted Blanket for Adults
£125

Luna’s weighted blanket has an overwhelming 12,998 reviews – and impressively, 78 percent of those reviews are five stars. 978 reviewers wrote that it was comfortable (though several noted that it takes a couple of nights to get used to), while 244 reviewers said they had a great night’s sleep after using this blanket for the first time. Not only did 702 reviewers say they would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a weighted blanket, 600 of those reviews were five stars. These included an elderly customer who wrote that she no longer woke seven times in the night, finding the blanket both soothing and comfortable. The blanket is made from organic cotton, and the beads are made from glass – this means, unlike plastic alternatives, they are odourless, according to one customer, who switched from a cheaper blanket due to the “plasticky” smell.

Best-rated weighted blanket with a removable, washable cover

The supersoft teddy-bear-like material on this blanket stood out to reviewers, who gave it an average of 4.5 stars on Amazon. Five reviewers also mention how this blanket isn’t too hot in the summer and isn’t too cold in the winter — very useful when it comes to Britain’s mixed weather. Although some customers caution that the removable cover can be tricky to attach to the inner blanket, others praise the secure loop-tie design, which stops the blanket from moving around inside the fleece. There is literally only one review for this product that is not four or five stars. That one describes the blanket as well made but acknowledges, as with the other blankets on this list, that a weighted blanket is not a solution for everyone.

Best-rated weighted blanket for couples and king-size beds

Odyseaco Weighted Blanket
£40

This weighted blanket is one of the few on the list that comes in a larger, heavier king-size-bed option. A few customers acknowledge their initial concern with the heaviness of this blanket and mention having to heft it on top of the bed in the evening. But now, as six reviewers say, this blanket helps them get a full eight hours each night. One particularly happy customer praises the way the blanket folds around their body, keeping draughts out and staying put while they sleep. This is a bonus when using the blanket as a couple, as it stays put while their partner tosses and turns. Three other reviewers mention that the heaviness has relieved their partners’ restless legs and improved all the couples’ sleep. Although this is our top pick for king-size beds, the blanket is well reviewed in all sizes. Like the Van Beeken, it comes with a removable, washable cotton cover — plus this is the first blanket on the list which offers a choice of two colours.

Best-rated weighted blanket with a trial-period

Mela Weighted Blanket
£139

In part because Mela offers a 100-night trial period and has a U.K.-based support team, more than one buyer has praised the brand’s customer service. Aside from that, this weighted blanket receives the usual plaudits about cosiness and improved sleep. Additionally, customers call out the how-to guide that arrives with the blanket and laud the company for donating a percentage of every sale to charity. While a few customers acknowledge that this blanket is a significant investment, five other reviews specifically say it is worth the money. [Editor’s note: this product is currently sold out].

Best-rated eco-friendly weighted blanket

£199

In addition to being the best-rated ecofriendly weighted blanket (81 percent of the reviews are five stars), this option by Baloo comes highly recommended by our U.S. colleagues, who rated it the No. 1 most-giftable weighted blanket. U.K.-based reviewers praise this blanket for its attractiveness as well as how useful it is for meditation. For more than half of the reviewers, however, the factor that sets this blanket apart is Baloo’s ecofriendly, sustainable ethos — a few buyers note that the blanket’s cotton fabric and glass microbeads are certified chemical free and vegan. (The company also markets itself as carbon neutral and, as of December 2019, plastic free). This blanket doesn’t have a removable cover, but Baloo sells attachable French-linen covers in a variety of colours.

Best-rated bamboo weighted blanket

YNM Bamboo Weighted Blanket
£90

This weighted blanket by YnM has 79 percent five-star reviews, and is available in bamboo viscose, cotton, and a “mink-y” fleece fabric. All models come with good reviews, but the bamboo seems particularly effective for hot sleepers. This blanket comes in a range of lighter models suitable for kids, including an intermediate 3.2kg weight not offered any other brand on this list. Additionally, the YnM is the No. 1 best-selling weighted blanket on Amazon in the U.S, and was included in our colleague’s list of the best weighted blankets in the U.S. as well as in the Strategist 100, our collection of the best, most-stood-behind products ever to appear on the website.

Best-rated polyester weighted blanket

Brentfords Weighted Blanket
£20
£20

This weighted blanket by Brentfords is a far more affordable option that comes highly rated – 79 percent of the reviews are five stars. The cost-effectiveness comes from the fact this blanket is made from polyester, not cotton – but 54 reviewers said it felt soft and good quality (and the beads are made of glass, not plastic). One customer even said it felt like it cost twice as much. The largest size blanket is currently sold out, but the 125-by-180cm option is available – Brentfords says this size is more suitable for a single bed or placed over a target area (such as the legs or chest). Several negative reviews come from customers who expected this to be large enough for a double – but one woman wrote favourably about it, as her husband dislikes weighted blankets, while she found it helped with her restless leg syndrome. Fourteen reviewers also said it was slim enough to move to the sofa, unlike the heavier models.

Best-rated patterned weighted blanket

£427

This blanket is another tried-and-tested Strategist favourite (which we’ve recommended before for its attractive geometric pattern). Customers wrote at length about the patterned fleece cover. One reviewer singles out the different textures, noting how one side is slightly bobbled, while the other is smooth and soft. Other buyers confirm that the cover is durable and that the blanket holds up well to the washing machine.
